Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Cenotaph, an innovative social media startup is seeking an experienced leader to be a key part of a dynamic executive team that is using technology to comfort mourners and honor those they loved.
As COO you will lead group of diverse, talented and compassionate individuals. Experience with fast growing technology companies will inform your crafting of effective systems for the entire organization. Direct responsibility for employees, business development and alliances, and contractor management will be the core of your mission. You will successfully oversee day to day operations in order to allow the CEO to focus on fundraising, leadership, and evangelizing the vision.
The ideal candidate will be personally accountable for results, inspire a strong commitment to teamwork in support of the company’s success, and comfortable operating in a start-up environment with an ability to prioritize and drive actions to closure. In addition exceptional ethics and a dignified, compassionate demeanor are vital to leadership in a venture that caters to grieving community members.
Responsibilities/Qualifications/Essential job Functions
• Reporting to the CEO, the COO will lead all internal operations and will have the following responsibilities:
• Drive the operational launch of the product.
• Develop and execute budgets.
• Manage and direct company operations to meet budget and other financial goals.
• Develop, establish, and direct the execution of operating policies to support overall company objectives.
• Working in partnership with the management team and board of directors, create a strategic five year plan and implement processes and approaches to achieve it.
• Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals.
• Oversee all administrative functions, ensuring smooth daily operations:
• Oversee contract negotiation and legal activities: partnership agreements, vendor contracts, and other legal documents.
• Manage the daily performance of the operations team. Use effective meeting and project planning practices to drive focus and results.
• Manage individual performance by establishing annual operating objectives for each employee with quarterly reviews. Also establish an annual development plan for each employee and provide ongoing coaching.
• Support Product Engineering and IT Operations, ensuring appropriate systems are in place to achieve goals.
• Oversee the human resources, including:
o Recruitment, hiring, onboarding and retention
o Compensation and benefits administration
o Professional training and development
• Perform other job-related duties as required.
Skills and Expertise:
• Managing and Growing a startup thru all levels of growth.
• Bachelor’s degree. A MBA or Master’s is a plus.
• 10+ years’ professional experience with progressive general management responsibilities in a high-paced, rapid growth environment. Life experience fostering compassion and empathy.
• Expertise overseeing design and project execution
• Successful identification and management of revenue streams
• Proven management track record
• Experience and success in preparing for, negotiating and closing equity capital raises
• Managing a diverse team in a manner that focuses the team and drives results
• Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
• Personal qualities of integrity, competence, compassion and commitment to the mission of Cenotaph.
