Android Engineer

The Role:
We’re hiring an experienced Android Engineer to join our growing mobile apps team. We have big goals for 2015 and beyond, and our Android app will play a big role in growing our users and partnership further. This is a great opportunity to make an impact and change a major industry. 

Here’s what you’ll drive 😉 
* Develop and improve the Automatic Android application. 
* Partner with our UX and Visual Design team to develop the application experience even further so it’s beautiful, seamless and fun. 
* Collaborate with our firmware team to integrate our app further with Automatic Link (and our awesome device). 
* Grab the wheel! Actively participate in collaborative discussions about product direction. 

Our Ideal Candidate:
You’re an experienced engineer looking for a new home in a small but well formed and growing mobile apps team. You lead from the front, take ownership of large areas of the system and are happy to interface with our amazing firmware and server teams. Our team loves what we do and so do you – if not a self confessed car nut, you’re passionate about building fun, sticky mobile apps and providing the best in class product for our customers. 

We’d be thrilled if you have…
* 3+ years of experience developing Android apps professionally, be it on a team or as a consultant. Or maybe a little of both! 
* An understanding of Android app fundamentals including REST, JSON, Caching, Persistent storage, custom views & list views. 
* Strong Java fundamentals. To us this means 5+ years of experience working with Java, but show us what this means to you. 
* Experience releasing an Android app (or several!) into production and on Google Play. The more relevant to what we’re building, the better 🙂 
* Some experience collaborating with designers. No silos here, so tell us about how you play with others. 
* Side projects you can share from a GitHub page or project site. 

Bonus Points for:
* Experience building apps with Android SDK 4.0 or higher (Automatic doesn’t support below 4.0). 
* Experience with Git and Unit testing. 
* Experience with Proguard. 
* Experience with Gradle builds. 
* Familiarity with the Bluetooth protocol and stack.
