This is a project working toward self-sustainability. With the involvement of community, we hope to share values and our vision with people. Living without electricity has been a priviledge for us. Making it possible to be free of signals and tuning in to ourselves and the earth which is very rewarding.

Teaching
We would love to share our simple life with you and show you how to cook great food off grid.
Also sharing different mindsets about human life and the world.
We have many beautiful free birds iguanas and mamals during day, and frogs and crabs in our creek, we would love to share our time with you. There is also opportunity to hike at a friend's land with beautiful views of nature on a day off.
We like to talk about everything.
Plus, we have a small library about vegan food, health, organic agriculture, literature, yoga, ayurveda, reiki, tantra, acupunture, geography, relaxing massage, martial arts permaculture and construction and we like to share as long as you take care about them and put them back in the same place,
And so also if you have more books for this small cultural work you are welcome it doesnt matter if is second hand.
You could also learn about plants and how to grow them in a tropical forest climate.
We like to be transparent on everything we do and be as clear as posible.

There is also a waterfall in La Fortuna and tourist agencies that offer kayaking and canopy tours. If your interested in volunteering in exchange for camping, Bosque Eterno de los Niños could be worth exploring. Our one week stay was a good learning about some basic permaculture concepts and had good talks with Gerson and Jessica.
We were really happy to hear Gerson's story about how we decided to create the farm and the courage we showed to challenge the 'normal' way of living persuing the happiness. We… read more emphatized with him from the beginning and their story it's very interesting. They have a baby with just a few week old and it's the best baby we've met. One week there and we didn't hear her crying, amazing!
Our work started in cleaning and organizing the living room so everybody had a more comfortable space to stay. During the other days we helped in the farm when the weather wasn't raining and when it's raining we did other tasks as painting, vanishing some wood to make shelves for the kitchen. We also moved the toilet outside of the house covering the walls and baptizing it as 'national bank'. When it was very hot at noon we stopped the work outside and finished in the afternoon.
Gerson and Jessica were very kind and helpful trying to make us comfortable. They helped us to change our matress after being bitten by insects really hard. They also provided alcohol and oil and cooked herbal water to help to kill the insects. We really apreciatted that!
We suggest future volunteers to buy a Kolbi sim card, it's very cheap and have good plans for basic use. In the neighbours house, just 5 mins walk can also use. She is very nice and welcoming, as well the other neighbours in the village. It's a very green and beautiful village, and being not touristic makes it more interesting to meet the real Costa Rica and how lovely that people are.
We really hope Gerson's farm can grow fast as possible and they can be very happy with their princess!
One love
Sui and Tiago

They took care of our house one week while we where out and they did very well about it and taking care of dogs.
Only me, Gerson could interact with them 2 days befere leave the house on their hands. I wanted to be sure… read more everything was ok and ask them is they like the place enough to stay the 2 weeks we agreenon them to stay. But not electricity is not for everyone especially in a calm place like this so they decided to leave one week before time.
I am thankful that this town is very safe and the house stay alone when I didn't expected specially whe they let the chain for the gate on a usless way in wich anyone can open it enought to invite a horse to drink coffee in the living room…
Anyway they are not bad people. The house was complet when we could came back and for a while a neighbor took care and feed the dogs and chickens.
So we are thankfull to god or the universe.
We are ok and hope them to be ok and visit hosts while they are at home.
I rated a GOOD just because we where lucky and the house was ok and we found someone else to take care of dogs.

About her work i… read more cant say it was great or bad. It was neutral.
Personally it was nice to talk after breakfast with her and rest of volunteers. She gave good suggestions about how to manage volunteer work and how to explain better the work needed to be done.
Because of having empathy with other volunteers and consideration to other hosts is better to give for first time a neutral rate to this guest. But normaly we give an excelent rate and just once a good rate…
Volunteering work and exchange is not a forced work where the host is a boss or a slayer. But it is a space where both needs are acknowledge and respected.
The visitor get a place safe to sleep, some food and kindness and respect from the resident.
The resident receives back kindness, supportive work and respect and honoring to the project from the person who visit.
And this is something that some visitors or hosts forget or never have known.

The work varied and we could decide on our own… read more what we wanted to work on (there was a plan with what to do and we decided by weather and energy level). Unfortunately it was raining a lot in this two weeks so we did mainly indoor work (sandpapering and painting windows and doors). However, there were also a few sunny days where we worked on a garden bed. They even trusted us enough and let us alone for two days because they had business in San Jose and needed to take care of things. We felt with their dog quite safe.
All in all we really enjoyed the shared meals together. There was always a lot to talk about and discuss. Gerson and Jess are super nice and interesting people. They also have a lot of ideas and a good vision if their project. We wish them all the best for their future endeavors and hope, they can fulfill their dream soon. we can only recommend to get to know them if you are willing or able to live a simple lifestyle 🙂 there are also a lot of options for your free time as it is near the Arenal Vulcano and other sights
