We have a beautiful peace of land in the high jungle close to the village San Ramon, in the province of Chanchamayo, JUNIN in Peru. I am Laura, 32 years old, and I studied tourist administration. I am creating an environmental project in our land, looking for volunteers from all around the world to help with the project and also enjoy being in the middle of nature at it´s best in the high jungle of Peru. Close by there is a beautiful and clean river to swim in, as well as natural pools to get refreshed. The climate is hot all year round, and in winter time (January-April) it rains, but is still hot. The work in the land is hard, and in winter time the working hours are flexible, depending on the rain (we can´t work when it rains hard).
I am looking for help planting plants and trees, taking out weeds, helping with the crops that we planted, building a special place using about 1000 glass bottles that have been recycled, creating an ecological botanical garden and designing a logo. I speak 5 languages (Spanish, English, French, Portuguese and Hebrew), and I love listening to music, doing sports, meeting new people and traveling.
One thing to take into account – the road from Lima to San Ramon (and the Central Jungle) sometimes can get blocked due to mudslides or traffic accidents that may cause delays of the bus trip, so if this occurs you will need patience (this occurs quite rarley).
The arrival of volunteers to the project is Sunday or Monday

I have 3 rooms in our house inside the village of San Ramon, and provide bathrooms, showers and kitchen to our volunteers. I also provide 3 meals a day, usually traditional Peruvian dishes. Maximum 5 people can stay here at a time.
San Ramon is considered "high jungle", and is located 8 hours bus ride from Lima. The nature here is outstanding, with many waterfalls, diversity of animals and plants, butterflies and rivers. I have many recommendations of special and beautiful places to visit while staying here. The house where I host volunteers is in San Ramon- a small village, and our land (where the volunteer work will be done) is about 20 minutes outside of San Ramon.
How to get here: The only way to get here is a bus from Lima. Currently, the best company is "Movil Tours" (Movil Bus). Other companies that are ok: "La Molina" and "La Merced". You need to buy tickets Lima- San Ramon ahead of time (one day before is usually enough, but sometimes the buses get sold out). The company Movil Tours is the only company that sells tickets on the internet. With the other companies tickets can only be bought in cash at the agency (station) of the bus company. The address of the bus company "Movil Bus" is:
Avenida Javier Prado Este 1093 (Accross from "Clínica Ricardo Palma"), Lima.
In order to get to the bus station of the company, you can take a taxi or public transportation (I reccomend a Taxi in this case). Days before your arrive, we will arrenge all the details of the arriving in San Ramon. The address is Urbanizacion Primavera, Calle los Gladiolos 228 ( familia Parra)
A bigger city that's located just 10 minutes from San Ramon is "La Merced". Anyone interested in coming please write me the date you wish to come and about how much time you plan to stay because I can only host 5 people at a time.
All the volunteers help to cook every day for everyone, and we live as a community where everyone helps out with cooking, washing and cleaning.
Necessary equipment for the jungle: sunscreen, repellent, long working pants, long working tshirt, hat. All of these can be bought here just in case someone doesn't have or forgets to bring.
More than two
Maximum 5 hours a day, 5 days a week
In developing countries (Where most hosts are involved in charity work or community development) some of our hosts may ask for a small donation to help the host family or charity (often less then 5 dollars per day) Workaway will allow this listing when the donation goes directly to the family or charity and is just to cover the cost of the volunteer‘s stay. (This will be clearly marked on the host listing).
We will strictly not allow listings posted by agents, “middle men” or projects who we feel are looking to profit from a volunteers stay.

Laura is a properly fantastic host. My experience here might have been my favorite workaway out of the six or so that i have done so far. The work is hard (something I personally enjoy), and the jungle is absolutely stunning, with beautiful… read more hikes, nature, and waterfalls. You will get plenty of opportunities to explore the village and surrounding area, and Laura will occasionally invite you on weekend outings to places you wouldn't find otherwise. Selva, their dog, is extremely cute and friendly, and I got to spend loads of quality time playing and snuggling with her. Don't be afraid to make your needs known! I was there during a very busy time for Laura, but she always made time for me when I needed something, even letting me borrow her phone's wifi so I could communicate with friends and family.
You quickly settle into the rhythm of daily life in San Ramon. A typical day for us would begin around 6:30 (a bit later if it was raining), when we would make a breakfast of eggs, guacamole, fruits, and oatmeal. Following this we would head to the farm, occasionally leaving behind a volunteer to clean and prepare lunch. The work on the farm was a bit different while I was there as L was preparing for a workshop, but involved a lot of working with bamboo, clearing land/digging, and taking care of the fruit trees. Bug spray, long sleeves, and sun cream were a must for me. We would finish between 2 and 4 in the afternoon, depending on when we started, and go back for lunch. Laura occasionally buys everyone lunch at a local restaurant on work days if there isn't time to make it. The rest of the day is up to you, but I would usually relax in the hammocks, read and enjoy a beer from the corner store, or explore the area with other volunteers. Volunteers are often on their own for dinner, although L provides plenty of ingredients in the kitchen for us to use.
I think it's worth mentioning that Laura, experienced as she is with volunteers of other nationalities, strikes a great balance of Spanish and English if you want the practice, and is very clear in her speech. I think I learned more Spanish in my 3 weeks in San Ramon than in the prior 4 months of traveling and volunteering in other parts of South America.
I wish you all the best Laura and may we meet again.

Laura is the person with who we were working. She is energic and well motivated to improve her community with differents projects. She acts to protect the nature, to embellish the village of San-Ramon and to bring new cultural activities in the jungle. She needs help to realize her projects. We were working hard,… read more but as the ambiance was good, we felt good. Thanks :o)
I am sending you good vibes and I wish to see you in the future! Annie xx
Hard work in a unique area, welcomed into a family, and teamwork with other volunteers.
Laura, and her beautiful puppy, were incredibly welcoming from the very first moment we met. We soon got into the routine of having a delicious and nutritious… read more breakfast (usually fresh fruit from the land, porridge and quinoa) together before heading to the land. The work was usually challenging but varied. Tending to the crops, cleaning the land, construction, every day was different! Laura was happy to explain what we were doing and why and how it fits into her plans of permaculture.
After work we'd return for lunch together, usually rice/pasta with tuna and salad. In the afternoons we'd be free to explore the town, cook dinner for ourselves, hangout and socialise, or take a well needed siesta!
On the weekends we'd explore the beautiful surrounding areas, especially the waterfalls. There was a festival which Laura took us to with her family who were all also extremely welcoming.
Laura fully embodied the spirit of being a good host. I wish her and her family all the best with their plans and hope to return at some point in the future!

Working with Laura is far from being easy, but the emotional recompensation is far from being indifferent as well.
I stayed two weeks there and I felt as part of the volunteer family as part of her own family.
We worked most on mornings and after we lunch at the house or at the restaurant of her lovely… read more mother, eating a great soup for first and a delicious brosted or roasted chicken (your choice) with shisha morada for drinking.
Here we did various stuff and I think nowadays Laura is beggining the bio-construction projects.
I have to stay the my last day there was on of the prettiest days of my entire trip, going to the sanctuary "Pampa Hermosa" for the hole day with her family, seing awesome landscapes and even "Gallitos de Las Rocas" the national symbol of Peru.
You might work with Señor Alberto and Enzo two awesome, intellegent, interesting and helpfull persons.

Totalmente recomendable para aquellos aventureros dispuestos a compartir en un entorno muy hermoso de naturaleza plena!

Now take this work and put it in a setting with incredible waterfalls, a jungle filled with all kinds of species of butterflies, in a town which remains virtually untouched from tourism from the outside. You will experience picnics with the family on weekends, dancing in the middle of the jungle, or running in the old town stadium as the sun goes up.
Would definitely recommend to anyone who is willing to work hard and who really wants to know how life in the 'high jungle' works!
Un abrazo to all the family, good luck with the Chacra guys.
