Bellingen is a wonderful town to come for a cultural exchange. Our stay allows travellers to experience life in a small, friendly, country town first hand. You can learn about our local wildlife species, environment and indigenous culture. We in turn greatly enjoy learning from you about your culture, your home country and sharing our stories about our love of travel.
We are located in the picturesque town of Bellingen in northern NSW. Our guesthouse overlooks the Bellinger River and is moments from wonderful cafes and quaint shops. We are half an hour from UNESCO listed Dorrigo National Park and 20 minutes from the beaches of the Coffs Coast.
Our 10 room guesthouse is situated in a character filled, three-story, freshly painted weatherboard building and has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The position requires you to help 2 hours per day house-cleaning. This help is in exchange for free accommodation, wi-fi and use of all our hostel facilities, bikes etc. We would prefer people who can commit to at least 2 weeks at our hostel.

We have an abundance of swimming spots in and around the town, from rivers to waterfalls to the ocean and back.
There is heaps to do in and around Bellingen. The town is a wonderful balance of people from all walks of life. There is amazing nature in one of the last Gondwana forests in the world (a protected world heritage site), which we are on the doorstep of.
You can tube down the river, or just sit and be in Bellingen.
Our guesthouse is located moments from swimming in the river, wonderful cafes and quaint shops.
If you have yoga teaching skills our guests love to join you for a morning session 🙂

The tasks were pretty light and only lasted for 2 hours in the morning,… read more after that I was free to visit the cute little town of Bellingen, or Bello, go canoeing on the river, visit the Dorrigo Nat Park or just stroll around and take pictures of the wonderful natural surroundings.
Thank you Amanda and Rowan for all your caring, attentiveness and kindness. I really enjoyed my stay with you. You are two amasing persons and I wish you all the best in the future.

Amanda and Denise are both so kind. They are always positive and really enthusiastic. They were always happy to explain something, also if it was not work related. They would give us advice on how to get… read more somewhere, for example, or tell us about wildlife. I want to thank them for everything!
The work itself was easy and time always flew by. It was only 2 hours of cleaning in the morning from 10-12 am or a 3 hour shift as a night manager from 7-10 pm. I actually enjoyed the work, as the atmosphere was so good and everyone was so friendly.
I went to the river a lot in my time off, where I swam, read a book or did a workout. I also loved to spend time with the other volunteers, who I will miss very much (in fact, I miss them already).
I am really happy I decided to come to Bellingen and I left with nothing but good memories. I would love to return to the guesthouse one day!

You'll work for about 2 hours a day (cleaning or nightmanaging) and get a bed in a cute little cabin with a 5min walk to the… read more river! The only thing I'd recommend is a car to explore the beauty spot 🙂 – but there's also a lot to see even without a car!

Must mention the amazing staff that work on the hostel, of course Rowan but specially Lareena (she was the manager almost all the days I stayed, and she is an amazing person and she was always helpful giving advice in what to visit and what to do.
I would totally recomend this experience to any workawayer who wants to chill in a nice and pacefully place and who love nature and exploring the area. Great experience with amazing people! 🙂

A rotating roster ensures everyone is pitching in and jobs are varied. We also had a rostered day off each week.
Most of the work was changing beds, vacuuming and moping, cleaning the shared bathrooms. Each night a staff member was assigned Night Duty – making sure the kitchen is cleared for the morning, no rubbish is smelling up the place overnight and noise is kept to a minimum after hours.
Work is limited to 2.5 hours and is easier or harder depending on how many other volunteers are on site and guests staying. When I arrived, there were 5 staff on the roster including myself. In the last few days there were only 2 of us.
With lots to see and do around Bellingen, a great staff and a relaxed atmosphere, I'd definitely recommend working at the guesthouse if you're looking to slow your pace and take a couple weeks to chill out.

Felix, Marie et Remy sont incroyables. On les a trouvés tellement gentils et travailleurs, mais surtout des belles personnes. C'était tres facile de les accueillir. Lareena et moi sont d'accord que vous étiez trois des meilleures travailleurs que nous avons jamais eus. Ils se sont appliques à chaque tache et le fait avec un standard exceptionnel. Pendant deux semaines votre anglais s'est beaucoup amélioré (ca m'a fait pas surprise comme vous aviez vraiment fait des efforts). On était tristes de vous dire au revoir mais aussi hereuses d'avoir fait votre connaissance. C'etait vraiment un plaisir. Nous aussi on a des bons souvenirs.

Nous avons passé 2 semaines dans cette auberge a travailler 2h le matin (nettoyage douche et chambres) ou 3 heures le soir pour accueillir les clients et leur expliquer le fonctionnement de l'établissement. Des horaires et un travail très simple mais c'est surtout l'équipe (Sophie et lareena) que nous avons trouvé incroyable !! Des personnes chaleureuse qui nous ont aidé dans nos démarches alors que nous étions souvent perdu. Elles prennent de leur temps pour vous apprendre l'anglais et auront toujours le sourire ! bien évidemment nous recommandons sans aucun problème cet hôte qui resterons gravé dans notre mémoire !! merci encore a vous deux pour c'est 2 semaines, en espérant vous revoir un jour !!
