Our Animal Sanctuary was started in 2006 by Gemma who originally came to Sangklaburi to Volunteer as a teacher. She was horrified by the number of street dogs and cats there were in the area and the terrible conditions they were in.

Now 6 years later, we are happy to say that things have improved though we still have a long way to go. At the moment we have around 40 resident dogs who we care for and are looking to re-home. We provide medical treatment to all animals in the area as the nearest vet is a 4 hour drive away and most people do not have the funds for treatment there anyway. We conduct regular sterilization programmes to help reduce the number of street dogs and cats in the area.

Gemma is now back in the UK having a much deserved break from the sanctuary. A couple from England are taking care of things at the sanctuary and another couple from Australia will be taking their place in February. We are seeking a motivated individual or couple to take things over from them in July for 6 months with chances of a possible extension. Sangklaburi

This is a great opportunity for anyone wishing to gain experience with animals and through working, they will be sure to learn a great deal about how best to run a project on minimal resources in an area where animal welfare is still in it’s infancy. There will be volunteers and vets coming and going and the main job will be to keep everything running smoothy and everyone happy. This will be a tough role to fill as conditions here are very basic and we are faced with challenges on a daily basis so please only consider this role if you are thick skinned and willing to do some hard work. You must be well organized and experienced in dealing with animals. The most ideal person would be someone who has experience of managing people and projects, though everyone will be considered. Please note that it gets very hot here so you will have to adapt to heat and work well in these conditions. You must be clean/tidy to set a good example to other people in the sanctuary and be able to notice when things need to be done.

Free basic meals are provided in the school next to the sanctuary (except for on weekends and school holidays).

As we are an animal charity which aims to help all animals, irrespective of species, we are looking for vegetarians/vegans to run the sanctuary.
