System Administrator - Big Data TechOps Team  Zoosk's technical operations team is looking to add a seasoned system administrator for our growing Big Data organization which handles MySQL, Hadoop, and Cassandra production environments. In this role you'll be a key member of the team that keeps Zoosk up and running and serving over 40 million active members in 80 countries. You should have a focus on multiple Big Data scaling and support initiatives, and be excited about managing an expanding, dynamic environment and plan scaling, availability, and response times for Zoosk's production databases.  We maintain a balance of self-hosted and cloud-based solutions. As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our big data platform (which comprises Cassandra, MySQL, and Hadoop technologies) running smoothly. You also ensure that DB designs are safe and efficient for monitoring MySQL performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to production support issues Qualifications: Solid understanding of MySQL Server and InnoDB storage engine Experience with NoSQL DBs(like Cassandra and Hadoop),Hadoop / HBase Experience interfacing with databases in at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, Ruby), as well as general shell scripting Familiarity with MySQL replication, configuration, and strategies Experience with common monitoring tools such as Nagios, Ganglia, Cacti, Splunk, New Relic Familiarity with building hosts (kickstart, PXE boot) and config management systems (CFEngine, Puppet, Chef) Responsibilities: Work closely with platform and other engineering teams to set level expectations for big data projects. Establish best practices for storage, DB optimization and NoSQL designs which will allow us to scale efficiently with optimal hardware requirements. Build and tune MySQL databases in highly available fashion Manage backup and restore, maintaining run books & planning for disaster recovery Assist developers with query tuning and schema design Assist in completing NoSQL and Big Data projects Leverage external consultant from Percona, Cloudera, and Datastax to achieve faster solutions or explore new design ideas. Pluses: Experience with handling critical production under structured change management guidelines(publish tickets, design and implementation documents followed by Run Books  which can be used by rest of Ops team to triage production issues) Working knowledge of Percona Server and Percona Toolkit Experience administering NoSQL solutions (particularly Cassandra) Experience administering Hadoop Experience with MySQL High Availability solutions.  Experience with implementing active-active topologies across data centers.
