ROLE

Pantheon is currently looking for a motivated, proactive, and energetic individual to join the company’s Engineering team as a full-time employee.  This role reports to the Security and Reliability Engineering manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibility is to work with other Pantheon staff members to engineer solutions and build tools to continuously improve the stability, availability, performance, scalability, and security of all Pantheon systems.

• Build proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and implement projects at scale. Some examples:

  • Design, implement, and enhance systems that manage over a million containers

  • Improving our smart golang proxy layer

  • Improving our distributed file system that’s optimised for serving web content, built with fuse and backed by Cassandra and S3

• Help improve visibility into how our distributed services interact in production

• Work closely with the wider engineering team to both deliver platform improvements and provide expertise/support for non-platform initiatives

• Help continuously raise our standard of engineering excellence by implementing best practices for coding, testing, deploying, and communication

• Participate in on-call rotation

QUALIFICATIONS

• 2+ years of experience with large, high-traffic platforms and the design of scalable services in the real world

  • Any other relevant experience is a huge plus

• An affinity for service-oriented architecture

• Experience developing software services hosted in the cloud and distributed cloud systems (Google Compute/Container Engine/AWS/Rackspace for example)

• Advanced proficiency in at least one of the following: Python, golang, C

  • Any additional of the above languages or coffeescript/Ruby would be awesome

• Integrity, honesty, and the ability to be trusted and to work with highly sensitive and confidential information

• Highly resourceful and self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership in areas of responsibility

• Strong team player

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Bonus Points For:

• Understanding of Linux containerization technology and applications

• Knowledge of how and when to use (and not to use) Cassandra, Redis and MySQL

• A strong distaste for SPOF and heartfelt love of automation

• Knowledge of real time analytics and systems such as Storm
