  • Description

Hi! We have spaces for two different types of Workaway so I'll tell you about these first. You'll find more about us below that 🙂

    1. Childcare (one person - minimum 4 month stay)…..

We have one single bedroom for one person to help with childcare September-December ( 4 months) and January-June (4 months) - while we are at university we need help looking after our children after school, and sometimes taking them to school, and with light housework. We would like you to speak only in Spanish to our children as we would like them to improve their Spanish skills.
We would need someone who can do at least a full 4 months, please.
What would you need: Drivers licence, speak fluent Spanish, and like dogs!
What we can give you: A car for reasonable use for local journeys, 2 days off at the weekend, be part of our family.

    2. Gardening, general maintenance, building work (for two people-we have one double bed)…..

We would like a friendly couple to help us at our house near St. Andrews. Jobs required include: hedge trimming, fruit tree/bush pruning, flowerbed building, grass cutting, shed painting, house and window painting, and other garden jobs. In bad weather it would be painting inside. Help would also be appreciated with meal cooking in the evenings and cleaning/tidying the house and maybe babysitting one evening. (Please note: we only have one double bed available for one couple)

For our house in Helmsdale we need help to level the garden and create a lawn, driveway and flowerbeds, and also house painting. In bad weather there would be painting, sanding and stripping wallpaper inside.

About us - I am Rebecca (38), my husband is John (44) and we have two children. We have both decided to change career and I am now studying to be a Primary school teacher at university. John is at university studying Environmental and Countryside Management. This means our lives can get very busy and we need some help around the house! We love having guests in our home and would like to learn all about where you come from. We can suggest places for you to go and see on your days off and hopefully (exams and essays permitting during term time!) we will be able to take you to some places too.

Our family home is near St. Andrews in Fife and we have also recently bought a house in Helmsdale, Sutherland, which we have started to renovate. We spend school term time in Fife and the school holidays in Sutherland. We enjoy hillwalking and the outdoors. Come and explore the stunning scenery of Sutherland or the historic town of St. Andrews and surrounding areas.

We have three dogs and two cats. We also look after other people's dogs whilst they are on holiday - in our home. We usually take up to two extra dogs.

    Our house near St. Andrews:
We live in a large traditional stone cottage that has been modernised. It is situated in the countryside on the edge of a village. We have a large garden with plenty of space to relax in. We have Wifi and Freesat TV. You can get the bus from the village and it goes to St. Andrews or Edinburgh.

    Our house in Helmsdale:
We have recently purchased this four bedroom house. We are completely renovating this house and garden and it is 'work in progress'! It is needing a lot of work and has to be fully refurbished. It has hot water, a working bathroom and it is heated by open fires. In the kitchen, at the moment, we have a microwave for cooking, a fridge, a kettle and a toaster. We do have WiFi!

Ideally, you would come with us when we are at each house to allow you to enjoy different areas and landscapes in Scotland.

At our home near St. Andrews we would like help with gardening, fencing, decorating, odd-jobs/diy and animal care. At our home in Helmsdale, to the north of Scotland, we would like help with clearing the garden, decorating and renovation and odd-jobs. We go to Helmsdale at least once a month and in the school holidays. In Helmsdale the day starts a bit earlier, usually between 9 & 10am, as this allows for time to tidy up before having the afternoon to relax and explore.
