We are looking for an experienced individual to join us as Surge Operations – Programme Officer to support a significant programme of work reaching across multiple SC members, SCI and the Regions. This work, under supervision of the Surge Operations Programme Manager (SOPM), will help link and align the various systems used by Save the Children to recruit, identify and deploy humanitarian surge resources for global emergency responses.
Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.
As Surge Operations – Programme Officer you will assist the SOPM in the creation and management of the systems supporting our surge staff, and the data that comes out of it. This in turn will support strategic decision making at multiple levels of the organisation. You will also support the implementation of key globally linked surge systems and processes which result from the ongoing evolution of surge resources across the organisation. In addition you will:
- Provide support to members in the use of the system during times of peak demand, to include cover for deployment officer roles across members / SCI
- Support the continued development of the Integrated Deployment Systems (IDS) as organisational deployment processes or reporting requirements evolve over time
- Work with the SOPM to ensure timely and accurate data analysis for members, SCI, the HSWG as well as other stakeholders as required.
- Lead on the documentation and institutionalisation of cross member practices and knowledge in the use of the IDS.
- Represent the SOPM at relevant member-wide meetings and engage with a wide range of stakeholders as required.
To be successful you will preferably be educated to MA/MSc level with experience of project cycle management. The ability to engage and gain buy-in from global, divisional and local stakeholders is also essential as is a broad understanding of the humanitarian sector. Politically and culturally sensitive, you will have qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy. In addition you will have:
- A sound understanding of statistics and data trends
- Knowledge of complex finance systems – particularly Agresso
- Exceptional communication, networking and resilience skills
- An excellent understanding of interoperability of MS Office software, preferably with a basic understanding of VBA.
At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.
Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we’ll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
