With the increasing frequency and severity of emergencies world wide, Save the Children UK is increasing its capacity to support humanitarian programs and as Humanitarian Response Advisor you can help.
Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our humanitarian department provides resources for our country. It increases the capacity to meet the needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfill their potential.
One of your main duties will be to coordinate support for humanitarian responses globally through funding, program and operations support and enabling surge staffing. You may frequently travel overseas,
- Advise on emergency programs to Save the Children
- Co-ordinate responses by Save the Children
- Manage and provide remote pastoral care to Humanitarian Surge
- Keep up to date with the global humanitarian context for ongoing and potential emergency work in countries, regions and donors, as well as the anticipating potential crises
- Undertake regular field missions and deployments to emergency programs. This may include assuming line management and budget responsibility for the initial stages of an emergency assessment and response
- Provide training and capacity building to staff members on key response skills.
We are looking for a creative, strategic thinker with substantial experience of designing and implementing emergency programs for an international organization, probably in a managerial role and in difficult, complex environments. With sound knowledge of the wider humanitarian sector, including personal and professional networks and the current emergency institutional, legal and policy environment, you should have experience of humanitarian representation and communications. You will also need:
- Clear analytical skills and ability to plan, prioritize, implement and meet targets in a pressurized environment
- Ability to work in various environments
- Demonstrable ability to manage large budgets and deliver programs
- Experience of line management, including recruitment, ongoing support and performance management
- Cash Transfer Program management experience with institutional donors
- Fluent written and spoken English and ideally working knowledge of French, Spanish or Arabic.
At Save the Children our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you do not know what to do, then you can help. We look forward to hearing from you.
