When this project started in 2016, we had just been offered the opportunity to give a new life to a once abandoned beautiful little forest village on the slopes of the Paggaio mountain. We wanted to renew this once very lively place to offer space for cultural and social exchange. This place is paradise on earth – we just had to awaken it. And we did ! Thanks to our friends and wonderful volunteers, we now are in charge of 7 wooden guest houses and a wonderful place to host events and travellers from all over the world.
We are now waiting for you its new adventures ! Its guests (travellers and volunteers) are the ones who give live to our place and, as any living place, it needs to be taken care of.

As we are located at a very historical place and as I'm living here already my whole life and know a lot about the local history and the history of Paggaio mountain, I'm eager to teach you about it.
I will need help with construction and maintenance tasks on the wooden houses such as oiling the wooden bars of the houses. General help in the garden like cutting the lawn. Maybe some help on the project's website. We have one pony, 5 dogs and one cat and we are always open to have new animals so I'll also need some help with taking care of all the animals. I'm also open to your project ideas.
Greek, Italian, little English
You can stay in 3-bed room with everything important available such as internet, hot water .. It's a room similar to the rooms for our guests we host
We offer accommodation for three people in a room with three beds and food with breakfast, lunch and dinner(3+).You can stay in 1bed room with everything important available such as internet, hot water .. It's a room similar to the rooms for our guests we host
We offer accommodation for one people in a room with 2 beds and food with breakfast, lunch and dinner(3+).
Saturday and Sunday if you go for visit in area and you not work, we offer only the dinner.
The place is in the middle of the nature, so all kinds of activities connected to hiking and exploring the nature around are possible. The sea down is also not too far away. I can take you there if I have time. I'm mostly managing this place on my own. We have often guests who are staying in the wooden houses, so I'm busy with taking care of them and have only little time to do work outside. For this I need you.
I would volunteer for September, October and November.I would prefer ages, from 30 to 50 years.
I look for true volunteers with sincerity and love for the mountain. I'm not interested in tourists I already have enough
Please allow future volunteers to be confident about their participation and not to cancel it, as problems with proper management of residence occur.

This place is truly beautiful beyond words. We arrived and were stunned at the view of the mountains, valley and sea from the balcony of the beautiful chalet. This project is so exciting and full of potential and even the workaway profile doesn't do it justice. This is… read more a huge property with two hotels, a chalet, an incredibly proffessional bar and cultural space, future taverna, sports area, lots of animals (five dogs, a cat and a pregnant shetland pony) and beautiful caves/walks/waterways and of course the beautiful mountain itself all within walking distance.
We couldn't recommend the location more. We were given a beautiful room in the wooden lodge with all comforts taken care of. The view from the window is particularly amazing.
Eleftherios seems to really understand, appreciate and respect the cultural exchange aspect of workaway, in part I think due to his natural Greek hospitality. In our short time there he ensured we went for lots of walks (including up the mountain at 6.30 am which was particularly beautiful) and saw caves, other villages, future projects, playgrounds, the main town and the ultimate view – the top of the mountain that he is so passionate about. He was also super generous with his time, company and energy.
The work is really simple and enjoyable. During our two days of work we were varnishing the cabins, relaying a path that had been partially washed away in the rain, fixing some paving with cement, cutting grass and generally cleaning the guest accommodation and area. We wern't asked to do anything that was too much and it was obvious that Eleftherious cared about our experience of the work. I might recommend a scheduled break in the morning and afternoons work in order to maintain energy throughout!
The host was truly welcoming, even after a mix up about our arrival. As Eleftherios is still learning English be very clear about communication, especially before arrival. Even though he ended up waiting two hours for us and having to go to a different village he didn't hold this against us in any way. As a note it might be helpful for Eleftherios to put some information about the area on the profile (e.g. how go get there from Kavala, Thessaloniki etc.) and agree a point you want the volunteers to reach before picking them up to go by car to the mountain village.
We were also very well taken care of in terms of food as well as accommodation although this was due, mostly, to another volunteer who arrived while we were there. It might also be helpful to designate either a person for cooking when there are two or more volunteers or a rotation system. The food was really lovely and well presented – for future, it could be noted that as everyone has different appetites and we are so far from shops there, there might be a system in place where hungrier volunteers have somewhere with bread, butter etc. that they can eat outside of meal times in case of hunger which did hit us occasionally.
Finally, we left this workaway early due to Eleftherios being inappropriate with another lone, female volunteer. For this reason I wouldn't recommend single, female volunteers for this workaway assignment rather men or pairs/groups. I also suffered a little with the hosts ingrained sexist attitude (which is also cultural, I understand) and had a hard time with being asked to take responsibility for cooking and cleaning outside of work hours while my husband was actively encouraged not to partake in these tasks. However we have communicated these issues to Eleftherios and I am sure he will take them on when hosting volunteers; male and female in the future.
Although we left for this reason I would still recommend this workaway particularly for men and pairs/groups. The project is inspiring, the landscape awesome and the experience comfortable and cultural thanks to Eleftherios.
