    UPDATE December, 2015

SINGLE or COUPLE INVITED AS WINTER HELPER/S, JANUARY TO APRIL, 2016

Might you be a resilient, up for a challenge, outdoor single or couple to be our Volunteer Winter Helper/s for two months or more between January & April 2016? A modest weekly Winter Responsibility Allowance is available for the right folk.

You would need to have first class hostel cleaning and preparation skills, help us with sheep, ducks and hens feeding and snow clearing with a shovel We also use a quad bike with snow plough and a chainsaw so we do have mechanical help too! Either way, six days a week you will be acting as host, maintenance man/woman and looking after the place for two of these days in the absence of managers, Joanna & Juan Carlos.

In winter, LIVE SIMPLY IN OUR NEWLY BUILT, quirky and comfy largely off grid LAMBING BOTHY next to the sheep & hens. Sleep in a double Hebridean box bed and keep warm by a super efficient woodstove.

    ALSO … for April

Each year we invite energetic, pro active ‘can do’ singles, sometimes couples, to help us for a period of 2 months FROM MID APRIL UNTIL THE END OF OCTOBER. Please write to us from January, 2016 if you would like to join the Team for a two month period.

We appreciate having help with the management and maintenance of the 8-bed hostel, three off-grid eco-cabins and light-weight camping ground, ducks, hens, sheep, Django, the dog, polytunnel, gardens and woodlands. All this within a 6 acre homestead at The Lazy Duck, Nethy Bridge in the Cairngorms National Park, Scottish Highlands.

Volunteer Winter & Summer Helpers provide their own food and sometimes we provide & share meals like a breakfast or BBQ. They work with us approximately 24 hours a week, 6 days a week, 3 hours or so in the mornings and, by rotation 2 or so flexi hours in the evenings looking after guests and the livestock.

In summer each of our 3 Volunteer Helpers has a CLASSIC TOURING CARAVAN to themselves.

ENGAGE WITH THE GREAT SCOTTISH OUTDOORS SCENE on and off the mountain. There is a great deal happening here for all ages in the Cairngorms National Park 4 seasons round. Public transport is a ten minute walk away. Inverness by bus 90 minutes, Aviemore 20 minutes. Borrow our bike for trail riding and village shopping, 1 mile!

YOU AND WE TOGETHER ENCOURAGE elemental, thoughtful and laid back living for our guests. To achieve this we and you have to be strong, smart, energetic, flexible, considerate ‘CAN DO’ people, good to be with at both work and play and with a very good command of the English language.

Our volunteers are all non smokers.

WiFi is here of course and improving from patchy to good this year. There are normal limitations as to its use.

We are 15 minutes walk from the centre of Nethy Bridge by road or riverside path
20 minutes by bus from Aviemore
1 hour by train from Inverness
3 hours by train from Edinburgh

TO SEE THOSE WHO HAVE JOINED US IN PREVIOUS YEARS just go to our website ‘Volunteering’ page.

WE HAVE OVER 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE of hosting climbers, walkers, paddlers, campers, cyclists, mountain bikers - solo travellers as well as families and activity groups. Fiddle and clarsach, guitar and pipes have played late into the evening and many a ‘craic’ has been enjoyed round the camp fires at the hostel and on the camping ground.
