We are looking for an experienced and committed individual to join us as Health Adviser. You will contribute to the successful design and implementation of Child Health (CH) programmes, including our Integrated Community Case Management of Childhood Illnesses (ICCM) common approach as part of SCUK’s Health & Nutrition Strategy.

As Health Adviser you will provide technical support to country offices on proposals and funded programmes and be a point of reference in the health team for Child Health and Immunisation and also for the Health Worker Programme, as part of our corporate partnership. You will also provide SCUK priority countries with technical expertise to support the development of high quality programmes. In addition you will:

  • Ensure interventions are in line with the Health & Nutrition strategy and the Child Health sub-strategy, are evidence based, meet quality standards and are consistent with international and national standards, policies and strategies
  • Ensure that new projects and programmes include monitoring and evaluation systems that are robust, adequately resources and – where possible - capable of generating cross cutting evidence
  • Design and deliver Child Health programmes ensuring all aspects of the programme cycle have been carefully planned and quality assured to the highest level
  • Support country programmes to produce high quality and accurate project progress and evaluation reports that are submitted on time to donors
  • Facilitate the sharing of experience and learning about CH across the SC movement and wider sector including publishing in journals and presentations/conferences.

To be successful you will have substantial experience of development and implementing Child Health programmes in developing countries. As well as an internationally recognised post graduate degree, you will have extensive experience of working in Child Health and of developing effective and influential working relationships with key stakeholders. In addition you will have:

  • Exceptional programme management skills to ensure the successful delivery and/or course correction of programmes when required
  • The ability to analyse complex data in a technical area and to summarise and communicate this in ways that are accessible to a range of audiences and cultures
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with a proven ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals
  • The ability to operate in a self-directed way, within a NGO organisational environment
  • Excellent computer literacy (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
