A Forensic Field Officer

Purpose of the post

The Forensic Field Officer supports the ICRC Europe Mission and the Regional Forensic Coordinator in the design and implementation of the ICRC’s forensic programs/activities in Europe.

The Forensic Field Officer also contributes towards the implementation of the ICRC’s activities related to the search, recovery and identification of human remains of missing persons with a particular focus on migrants through promoting and supporting the effective implementation of relevant forensic standards applicable to the issue of missing persons, in particular the management of information about missing persons and the management of dead bodies, with a particular focus on migrants.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Assisting in the implementation of ICRC’s Forensic Strategy and activities in particular those related to the proper management of the Dead (MoTD) with emphasis in migrants and management of data
  • Helping to maintain an up-dated overview of the context as it applies to the ICRC’s forensic file in Europe, including with regards to relevant target populations
  • Helping to manage the forensic material and tools required for program implementation.
  • Helping to prepare and organize ICRC forensic training and dissemination activities and field visits in Europe.
  • Actively promote and when required advise on the ICRC’s and other relevant international standards applicable to the missing, forensics and management of human remains, including participation and/or organization of appropriate initiatives for this purpose;
  • Actively promote dialogue and sharing of experiences on the missing from a forensic perspective through regular network and support of forensic practitioners at relevant forums
  • Provide forensic expertise for proper follow up on tracing cases; offer support to the “Reestablishment of Family Links” team on the review of relevant forensic data to support the national authorities in the identification of dead bodies.
  • Provide expert advice on policy proposals and texts as well as written and oral reports on forensic issues; Contribute to discussions on forensic related issues within the different contexts;

Expérience

Forensic practitioner holding a Masters’ degree or equivalent in medical, biological or forensic sciences.

Working languages: French and English. Other languages an asset
