We do not permit alcohol on the site. We want you to communicate clearly during your visit and allow us to respond to your input and questions. We will never use profanity and do not wish to hear it.
most importantly we have fun!! Live in a country not be just a tourist!! We do yoga and eat a healthy diet mostly vegetarian with attention to our impact on the environment.
"A hundred times a day I remind myself that my life depends on the labors of other men, both living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give , in measure,as I have received and am still receiving." ALBERT EINSTEIN
What can i say to top that. We come together and we do our best with what we have and live by the Golden Rule.
We are a working avocado, citrus and coffee farm with one full time employee. There is no charge to stay and we will provide food from the farm ( LIMITED PRODUCTION)and a food allowance of $20 weekly( which will help cover some of your food costs). NOW IN AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER WE ARE PRODUCING AVOCADOS, CITRUS, PLANTAINS BANANAS AND SOME SQUASH SO MOST OF YOUR FOOD YOU WILL PURCHASE WITH THE FOOD ALLOWANCE.
We accept volunteers of all skill levels but you need to be able to work outdoors for about 5 hours with breaks as needed.Right now in September and October the weather is cloudy and it rains in the afternoon so be prepared with hat and long sleeve rain jacket. The work is sometimes strenuous however each individual will be asked to work within their comfort level.

We are a farm where respect for nature is paramount. It is daylight at 5:30am and dark by 6pm and we are usually in bed by 9pm. The workday starts at 6am, break at 9am to eat and return from 10 to noon. You have the remainder of the day open but we require everyone to invest an hour each day to clean the common area ,to clean the main workaway kitchen and your own room. . We enjoy community and creativity and that is why we invite volunteers. Several volunteers have stayed for 6 months and some for a year.
THIS MONTH pruning and painting avocado trees, cutting back young coffee plants, care of citrus , planting vegetable gardens. Working on the workaway cabin. Cleaning the trails around the lake and along the river, planting bananas….

Accommodation
Securing accommodations
We try to demonstrate a lifestyle that uses only what we need and leaves our surroundings in better condition than what we found them.
Often we receive requests to live in our farm and volunteers fail to stay in contact. We ask that you update your travel plans to visit every two weeks. When you have a confirmed airline flight schedule we will hold a secure place for you. This may mean that we turn away other interested volunteers so please respect this system.
The living quarters are separate from the main house and are your private space. You will be responsible for all personal hygiene items and for keeping your private and common space clean as if you were in your own home. Because you are sharing a kitchen and bathroom with others it is essential that you keep your area tidy and organized. You must be willing to dedicate an hour each day to keeping your area clean.
We do not enter without permission unless an emergency or to fix something.
When you arrive the cabin will be ready for occupancy. We ask that you agree to leave the cabin as clean as you found it.
Two cabins are available both have hot water showers; one is small with bedroom and bath, which accommodates a couple very nicely, the other has the common kitchen and two bedrooms. Bedrooms have doors but the ceiling is open. We have a radio available.
The cabin has a new refrigerator, a toaster oven, pressure cooker, serviceable cookware and a coffeemaker. We think microwave may not be healthy but if you need this we have one in storage.
What else …
We are located in the mountains with a comfortable climate( no air conditioning or heater needed)
We love to cook and eat and can show you how to prepare the various foods that are growing in Costa Rica.
When in season we share all of the food growing on the farm however most of what you will eat comes from outside the farm from the local vegetable vendors. We provide oats, and some mixed nuts and raisins for the breakfast and provide a weekly food allowance of $20 weekly(at the start of your second week) for a local foods vegetarian diet. After a month we provide additional food allowance. You can cook with us in the main house for breakfast and fiestas but be prepared to cook in your kitchen. We have pot luck dinners some nights. On most Friday mornings we travel to the local feria to purchase food from the farmers and vendors.
There are herbs and medicinal plants growing on the property which we will show you how to use.
During the rainy season from June to November there are avocados, citrus( both these trees require use of chemical sprays), bananas and plantains( no spraying these) being produced.
