  • Description

We are an officially registered asociation dedicated to rescuing streetdogs which are sick, hurt or abandoned. We have a dogshelter in Huanchaquito where we take care of the rescued dogs until we find them a home.

We are 100% dependend on the help of volunteers and donations.

The asociation is runned by Julius (Peru) and Marjolein (The Netherlands). Volunteering with us will give you an amazing and very rewarding experience. Every morning volunteers go to the dogshelter where they take care of the dogs, play with them, walk them, feed them and clean the terrain. We are improving the shelter whenever we have the funds. So handy volunteers are also more then welcome.

Around noon - 1 pm we go back to Huanchaco. Besides this volunteers are welcome to join dogrescues, see the veterinarian in action and Help with fundraising activities. There is never a boring day:-)!

We also have a need for volunteers with veterinarian experience to help us take care of our dogs who often need medical care. besides this we can offer you a placement in an animal hospital in Trujillo where you will be able to assist the vets in their daily work.

In summertime (January-March) the schedule for the shelter is adapted because of the hot weather. Feeding then happens the end of the afternoons.

Besides the help in the dogshelter we organize fundraisers (karaoke evenings for example) to raise money for dogfood, medical expenses, construction etc. You will also be helping with the organization and on the evening itself. its always fun!

We are currently looking into updating our website and our main video which we have on our website. so any multimedia and creative people are welcome to help us out with the creation of a new video.

Volunteers will have plenty of time to enjoy beautifull Huanchaco, go out and go surfing!

    • Internet access

    • Limited internet access

    • We have pets

    • We are smokers

  • How many Workawayers can stay?

    More than two

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Helping in a dogshelter is very rewarding. The dogs need people around them and you will soon fall in love with many of them. You will learn how life for dogs is in peru and how things here are so different.

A shelter in Peru is a lot different from animal shelters in developed countries where they often are put in cages. With us the dogs live together. We have to do with a minimum of facilities but if you love dogs you will find it only so much more rewarding to see how your presence is making such a difference.

you get to know the local vet and see him in action. if interested and with the right experience you can even help out in the animal hospital.

Why does workaway.info allow listings of hosts who charge money?

In developing countries (Where most hosts are involved in charity work or community development) some of our hosts may ask for a small donation to help the host family or charity (often less then 5 dollars per day) Workaway will allow this listing when the donation goes directly to the family or charity and is just to cover the cost of the volunteer‘s stay. (This will be clearly marked on the host listing).
We will strictly not allow listings posted by agents, “middle men” or projects who we feel are looking to profit from a volunteers stay.

20 Peruvian Sols (approx US$6) per day
