  • Description

Our volunteers contribute their creative energy and talent at our busy jungle hostel. We need help with customer service, language exchange, and we also have positions for general helpers and more "project-based" work (such as art projects, photography, social media and content marketing), as well as "treasure hunter" positions (volunteers whose specific role is to work on/maintain our treasure hunts and games). We encourage a "shared workspace" sort of environment and mentality so our doors are always open to digital nomads looking for a place to settle for a while. Please read on to know more about the hostel.
We are in the process of building our yoga movement in the mountains! So currently we are in search for a motivated, creative, outgoing Yoga instructor for the month of July. Instructing 2 classes a day, 5 days a week to backpackers, travelers, and expats alike upon donation.

MORE ABOUT US… We are located in the Panamanian highlands (on the main road between both oceans) on more than 30 acres of rain forest (cloud forest) and re-purposed organic coffee farm. We are also the deepest private reserve within the La Fortuna nature park. We host backpackers, volunteers, scientists, nature enthusiasts, birders etc. Because it is one of the only pieces of titled land, the community is looking to us alone to develop tourism. For this reason we want to employ as many persons from the local community as possible, so volunteers are not simply used to cut down our labor costs. All volunteers help out with customer service roles and various projects, from expanding our trails, helping out with art projects, working on our treasure hunts and many other cool projects that help grow our vision.

Minimum commitment length we are looking for from volunteers is 2 months (please do not apply if otherwise). During the initial 3 days the volunteer stays as a guest to see what it is like living in the jungle. During this time a volunteer can decide if they are comfortable with the conditions. Volunteers start work on the 4th day. We look forward to sharing the experience of living in the jungle with you.

    – The social atmosphere. Meet people from around the world, and become part of our hostel family.
    – Yoga classes (free for volunteers)
    – Our treasure hunts and games (free)
    – Miles of hiking trails (free)
    – Nightly activities in the bar.
    – Organic coffee and wine tour/ Horseback riding tour (half off for volunteers). Meet locals and experience their way of life in rural Panama.
    – Getting to know Rocky the Kinkajou.
    – Practice your Spanish by working closely with our local staff members, or practice language exchange to help with professional development among our local staff..
    – Guided hikes through the jungle at night (upon donation)
    – Lots of nearby areas to explore, including the local community, warm and sunny river canyons, and majestic waterfalls.
    – Nature and wildlife (always free!)

We are in the Lonely Planet books, Central America on a shoestring book as well as the Panama book. Our hostel has very favorable reviews elsewhere. It is free to work as a volunteer with us (after the initial mandatory 3 day stay as a guest).

Please contact us for more information about available volunteer positions and to request our VOLUNTEER APPLICATION FORM.

We have been hosting volunteers for 10 years. We look forward to hearing from you!

We employee approximately 70% more local persons than the average hostel in Panama, a phenomenon you can witness for yourself while travelling through Panama. Every guest who comes here directly contributes to the lives of our 9 full-time, and 16 part-time staff members. During your time with us you will interact closely with Panamanians from the highlands of Chiriqui, learning about their culture and way of life, as well as the history of the area, Valle de la Mina and the La Fortuna Nature Reserve. We also put a strong emphasis on language exchange in regards to professional development for our staff, especially since we also employee some of the sons and daughters of our longer standing employees, to help them develop skills in the tourism industry, and learning English is a huge part of this.

Why does workaway.info allow listings of hosts who charge money?

In developing countries (Where most hosts are involved in charity work or community development) some of our hosts may ask for a small donation to help the host family or charity (often less then 5 dollars per day) Workaway will allow this listing when the donation goes directly to the family or charity and is just to cover the cost of the volunteer‘s stay.  (This will be clearly marked on the host listing).
We will strictly not allow listings posted by agents, “middle men” or projects who we feel are looking to profit from a volunteers stay.

Bolas, the neighborhood white faced Capuchin monkey. He just cant stay away from our orange grove… and we love him for it 🙂
How do we relax? Cold beer, light breeze and perfectly positioned hammocks.

The social atmosphere is beyond compare. Come as strangers, leave as friends.

Nestled in the jungle. It’s where we call home.
Cliff jumping at the nearby river canyons.
