Our place is a surf hostel & restaurant on Lobitos beach, north coast of Peru.

Located in a big colonial house overlooking the ocean, our place welcomes you into relaxed ambiance, friendly, artistic and international environement.

The house is a family with 6 local workers, we share experiences and knowledge of music, culinary, manuals among others, We are interested in always maintaining harmony and group, being a privileged sector for surfing is a magnificent place to learn this sport.
Help

We invite travelers to come and experience this place and this beach helping for a maximum of 5 hours a day, in exchange for free accommodation in shared room, exclusive kitchen for volunteers, use of common areas of the hostel and lunch every day. The help involves attention in the reception and cleaning of the hostel, creative and innovative ideas are always welcome.

We have had visitors from all over the world with most of them deciding to stay longer than planned. We need volunteers who stay at least 3 weeks.
The house and the area has a way of creeping into your heart without you noticing. Maybe it has something to do with the sun, the surf and the relaxed relaxed atmosphere that we enjoy and create.

This was my first workaway experience! I stayed here for 2.5 weeks and can really recommend it for anyone wanting to learn to surf or seriously relax for a while. This was one of my favourite weeks in Peru so far. This is such a special special place with a great energy. Wonderful view over the beach. Lobitos in general is just fab as it is not very touristy but for people who just want to get our there and surf. So if you are looking for a chilled out week then Lobitos is for you.

Volunteered at this absolutely breathtaking hostel in June. Oscar, Carlitos, Nando and Orlando are the most laid back and fun team to work with and every day was a wonderful experience. we will make it short since there are already so many positive feedbacks.
So Excellent really says it all already. We had a great stay in Lobitos which we totally fell in love with.
The whole team is awesome, working with Carlos and Nando was super fun. Oscar the owner is also pretty cool and gives you all the tips about surfing you need.
We had… read more an amazing team of volunteers, enjoyed the little place and recommend to get 10 people together and go to jump from the oilplatform!
Lunch was really delicious and fresh every day, no problems at all with any kinds of diets.

I can just go on but I thinks it's all said.
The only thing that might be misguiding in their profile are the working times. Its only 4 hours a day but it is seven days a week (except for the mainteneance person that gets sundays off).
This hasn't been a thing for any of us volunteers though, if you need a full day off, nando and carlos will make it possible for you. But there is really nothing around that you would need a whole day for.
And besides that work is just fun and gives you plenty of time to read or write your blog and so on.

Since the first minute I arrived I felt so welcomed by Daniel the administrator and the other volunteers. Work was super chilled, four hours a day on the reception welcoming guests, showing them their rooms and selling drinks. Lobitos is a magic place where you only meet happy friendly people, you get in touch with many locals, can learn surfing or just enjoy the nice weather and the ocean. Whenever you have a problem Nando, who takes care of general maintance, will be there for sure!!
We enjoyed so much cooking together with Daniel, making bonfires and have some drinks together.
Leaving Lobitos was the hardest goodbye since my travelling, so if you have the chance, no doubts, go to Lobitos!
So all I can say: Todo era SUPERBUENO!!!

I had three amazing weeks there. Lobitos is a beautiful, relaxed little town with perfect surfing conditions, and although I didn't became as good at surfing as I hoped, I truly enjoyed it anyway. Watching the sunset at the beach or the sunrise is indescribable. We also arranged christmas and new years parties, and a lovely christmas dinner. I was so happy and relaxed after the three weeks, and the only con is the mosquitos, they are insane, so bring a good repellant!

It's always sunny, the people are smiling and it's the best location in lobitos.

I volunteered for almost 1 month here and my time there was absolutely amazing. It's the most chilly and familiar atmosphere you will ever get into during your trip.
When i came here I wanted to learn surfing and at least I can stand sometimes on the board now hahaha. Everyone is so funny and helpful. In my first 2 weeks I worked together with… read more the "loco" Nando in general maintainance of the house (like painting walls, fixing old or destroyed parts of the ancient house and cleaning a bit). You can help him whenever you want and there is no time pressure. The life in Lobitos is tranquilo. Dile saludos! The last 2 weeks I worked at the reception which was also very chilly because you meet so many people, no one is in a hurry and you can enjoy some beers and the sunset (best I know) with the wonderful team or the guests. There is no nightshift so you can stand up early to go surfing 😉
Make sure you are "in a good connection" with the kitchen-girls, that you can maybe recieve some benefits just like me haha! They are so kind and the Lunch is for free for the volunteers.

After spending 6 months in the Amazon jungle I was anxious to find a nice dry place close to the ocean. I'm not a surfer but soon came to appreciate the tranquility of this hostel. I was instantly struck by the nature of the family atmosphere. The daily meal with the rest of the team was a highlight for me. This place felt more like a home than… read more any other place I have stayed/worked/volunteered at. With 2 dogs and 3 cats plus a lovely assortment of international travelers I was never short on company but always able to find a quiet spot to be by myself if needed. I stayed for over 2 months and would have stayed longer had my visa not been overdue. The staff and the family that run the adjoining restaurant are fantastic. When I left they threw me, not one, but several going away parties. I was made to feel very special and appreciated for doing what I love to do most, help out.

I really enjoyed working at the reception where I met adventurous people from all over the world. Thank you Oscar for providing such a great atmosphere and for allowing me to participate. I hope to return one day and watch another glorious sunset fro the deck. (The view is absolutely spectacular!)

I volunteered at this Hostel for 4 weeks and I enjoyed my time while there. Work was not hard and it was fun much of the time. After this month I must say that the host description is mostly outdated and, therefore, inaccurate (as of december/2016). There is no bar/restaurant job related whatsoever. Most work is about running this small surf… read more hostel, which involve sweeping, cleaning rooms/bathrooms, changing/washing (by hand) sheets, etc. The vibe is extremely relaxed and you have a fairly good lunch and the volunteers' rooms are not bad either. Water availability is very limited, though.
My only complaint is that there is no day off, you must work 7 days/week … And this is not written on the host description and also, as I mentioned above, the job description is inaccurate and incomplete That's is the main reason I rated Very good instead of Excellent. During my 4 weeks I was able to get 2 days off because the administrators, Tracy and Jose (who are lovely people) granted me. Oscar, the owner, is super cool and came around the hostel a few times and we shared dinner with the other volunteers/guests and had lost of fun.

After a month of volunteering, I was given the opportunity to be the manager of the hostel, for almost eight months, I took care of coordinating the work with the volunteers and all the necessities inside the hostel, it was a beautiful experience where I learned a lot and I was able to meet wonderful people. I stayed almost a month in this little paradise. All the staff is very nice and friendly, thank you Paola, thank you everybody ! This is a perfect place to learn surf, to chill, to fish. I had a really great time! It's the perfect place to volunteer, as long as you can handle the quietness of Lobitos.
It's the perfect place if you surf or want to learn. Tough i was working i was still able to go surfing 2 times a day, you have more than 3 different points for surfing, all reachable by foot.
The work was not too hard, you work… read more the 4 hours a day, cleaning in the reception. Like other comments suggest, it can be really hard to leave, i came for 2 weeks and ended up staying almost 4 months. If you want to stay longer, normally its possible. After 1 month i switched to working with the janitor and did general maintenance with him.
This place really has a family vibe, just right at the beginning you feel welcome. All the staff is really friendly and everyone gets along really well.
A big plus are the delicious meals prepared by the kitchen chef Joan, really really good food.
Me and Paola the manager could do some important tasks together, also sometimes after work. We updated all the house rules and the introduction sheets for the volunteers. I always gave my best and hope i could take part in making the hostal a better place for the statisfaction of the manager.

Really enjoyed my time here. My three weeks there went really quickly. The permanent staff are really nice and there are plenty of chances to practice your Spanish, surf and relax.

The work is <4 hours a day and is easy, but you do work 7 days a week. The facilities in the hostel are basic -no running water, watering can on a string shower and… read more slow wifi (quick enough for messages and not a lot else). You soon get used to the lifestyle and the basic amenities but it's worth noting before you arrive. You will need to go to Talara (30 minutes away) if you want to do proper food shopping or to withdraw money.

We stayed a bit more than 3 weeks here and would have stayed way longer if we wouldn't have other agreements. Lobitos is a great place to surf, chill and and enjoy good food and this is probably the best place to do all of that. Paola, Oscar and Nando were super friendly, very helpful and shared a lot with us. Also the other volunteers and guests… read more were awesome. The chefs Joan and Luis of the Restaurant Macchu, which kind of belongs to the host cooked the lunch for us every day and it was just delicious and every day something new. The work was relaxed and usually not more than 4 hours a day, it included cleaning and work in the reception / bar. The only thing which bothered us a little is that there are no days off, so you won't have the chance to do a trip somewhere over the weekend. Anyway we had enough time to relax and go for some shorter trips in the area which is quiet nice. In the end we can absolutely recommend this place but you should make sure that a very slow internet connection and a cold shower isn't a problem for you, but if you're planning a stay in Lobitos you wont find any better. Wow!! What a lovely place to stay! I had increible three weeks of volunteering here. The work is as describe pretty easy, 1,5h cleaning in the morning and a 2,5h bar shift during the day. We miss it here so so much!
What an amazing month we had there. Could have easily spent much more time there. It was sad to leave. You become part of the family there.
The work is pretty well structured, doing different tasks each day you never get bored. And there is plenty of down time, which is what lobitos does best.
I highly recommend it… read more as a work away option. There's so much opportunity for creativity and the management team is always open to suggestions and ideas to further improve this already great and iconic hostel

What an amazing place this is! I stayed here a month the people were amazing and the place was incredible! I already miss it all! We left here after 6 weeks full of joy, bonfire nights, some surf lessons, many swims in the ocean, several Nacho pizzas, cuddle sessions with the dogs and the cat,painting two walls, spending quite some time in the hammocks and most importantly meeting some wonderful people!
The life in Lobitos is pretty simple, there's no running water and the… read more town is not very big. On our first two days that seemed a bit frustrating but we got used to it super quickly and actually really appreciated the laid back lifestyle. Once a week we went to Talara to do some grocery shopping and water really only is a problem when there is a strike going on. Quite frankly we miss the cold showers from the watering can. Vokunteering here was a great experience, the surf town, Lobitos, is the place to be if you want to surf good waves and meet people from all over the world. I volunteered here for 10 days. I had a great time there although there were some difficulties like lack of water and electricity for some days. The place is incredible, beautiful and peaceful. If you want to get away from noisy and crowded tourist spots Lobitos is the perfect destination, especially if you’re a surfer. I loved spending my time in… read more Lobitos and meeting the other volunteers and managers (Camille and André) who were all nice and kind.

Regarding the job, I think it should be clarified in this profile how the job is really like, it says 3,5 hours a day but it’s actually 4 hours a day from Sunday to Sunday, so no days off. I also think there should be some improvements in the hostel to make the clients feel more comfortable.

Overall, it’s worth volunteering here, you just have to be willing to get out of your comfort zone 😉

My plan was to volunteer there for 3 weeks, ended up volunteering for 6 weeks and staying almost 2 months in total, very good place, great surf and a lot of good people, the managers camile and andrey are great and do what they can to make the volunteers feel at home and make the hostel work, i recommend the experience

La verdad que la paz que se vive éste lugar es indescrptible. El grupo de voluntarios y la gente, muy buena onda, el chef, las mascotas, la playa y el océano, hacen un lugar privilegiado.

I volunteered here for 3 weeks and intended on staying just one more week to have a sleep in here or there but I ended up staying almost two months! this place is a surfers dream, easily the best place in Lobitos, perched high on a hill over looking the whole beach this house has a lot of history and character. The work was easy and pretty laid… read more back and the managers Andre and Camili were very helpful and friendly, Oscar the owner was always happy to have a chat and helped me out when I needed to do something with my insurance which would have been a nightmare if he didn't help. Over all I would definitely recommend this place, super laid back with lots of free time and as I said if you a surfer its a must!

I had a great and memorable 5 week experience here…amazing sunsets everyday… I loved the team I was there with, usually 6-8 volunteers at a time – missing them all…and of course miss Fiona – the house dog, she is a beautiful soul 😉 and met a heap of travellers from all over the world… It was 3.5hrs work per day, either reception/bar,… read more cleaning rooms and the hostel or cooking for the volunteers…you will have A LOT of spare time, so time to perfect your surfing skills, or start a new hobby…a few people didn´t like all the down time, but I filled it with learning ukulele, making jewelry and reading, I loved it… Get ready to go back to bare basics – you can live without gold, but not without water – sometimes water is a hard thing to come by out there, enjoy a shower from a watering can and staff accommodation is basic, but for me perfectly comfortable…I loved the simplicity… Lobitos is a quiet place and always warm, although a bit windy in the winter months… Thank you for a wonderful time there!!!

WOW! sin duda es un lugar hermoso para trabajar! Estuve 2 semanas y me queria quedar mas. Pase mi cumpleaños allí, y me sentí como en casa. Had an un believable time . The hostel is paradise and Lobitos is an amazing place to spend time. Beware this place grows on you- I only meant to spend three weeks there but ended up there for two months the volunteers change reuarly but there is always a great atmosphere at La coSona.

We had generally a great time volunteering here in September, the other volunteers and all of the guests were brilliant company and we made some great friends during our time there… The only problem was the manager, however it seems they are looking for a new manager at present so I would definitely recommend going there now! The work is not… read more hard at all and there is a lot of free time. There are usually lots of volunteers at once so you can share the work load comfortably. Usually you clean in the morning, and have to work a few hours behind the bar, that's it! Lovely place to unwind and relax after weeks on the road.

I stayed there for 3 weeks and it was plain amazing.
Starting with the waves, the constant good weather and ending with the amazing people!
The work is not to bad at all. You get plenty of free time to surf, read and chillex.
I am so glad I went there.
For surfers: The water is cold you need a wetsuit.

I stayed a month here in Sept/Oct 2012. My initial plan was to volunteer for 2 weeks but it became my little paradise and only left because was about to overstay my 3 months visa in Peru. The work is pretty easy and even pleasant, the manager was amazing and all volunteers and guests made the… read more place feel like home (it is very important when you´ve been travelling for a very long time). We all had some little projects apart from the regular work, everyone was free to express themselves in their own way – decoration, art projects, cooking…And you have enough time to surf, explore the beaches, get better at foosball or just read a book in the hammocks. I left Lobitos feeling recharged and full of energy.

I absolutely loved my time here! The managers, Sebastian and Andrea, were wonderful and handled the volunteers so well. The food is amazing and the work is quite reasonable. You get the chance to be next to a beautiful beach and meet people from all over the world. I can't recommend them enough.
