We run a quaint, chill hotel half a block from the ocean nestled in the middle of beach party town, San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
Since the situation last year in Nica, we are waiting for San Juan to rise back to its potential and thankfully there are more and more travellers arriving each week. Once people realize that our town is a safe place to be we hope the word spreads and people will continue to visit us and in turn bring back local tourism and immensely support the local economy.
We are open to having new experiences with travellers and the new types of ideas they can bring to help our hotel become more succesful and more known around the area.

Hi, I am a volunteer who arrived in San Juan only planning to stay a few days. I walked through the calm streets of San Juan and got my first taste of how this beautiful place can be affected by the things that happened far away even long after they are over. I stumbled upon an unassuming hotel right next to the beach and felt like I was welcomed into a family home. After staying for a few days, I saw the potential of this place and wondered why it wasn't full of guests, with all it has to offer and decided to help out.
There are less tourists in San Juan then before, but every day there are backpackers walking by out front, not realizing what they are missing! I saw a place with a good atmosphere, a huge upstairs balcony where the breeze blows through from the ocean (perfect to do yoga 😉 and prices lower than the hostels nearby. I asked if I could paint a sign to place out front to start advertising a little and from there, Xiola asked me to stay and paint a mural upstairs. She offered me a free place to stay in the hotel and free meals, which I think is very generous considering the economic issues the families here are facing. I stayed not only because I love to paint, but after seeing the type of kindness and good energy that revolves around the hotel and that there are areas of improvement that I saw could easily be filled, I felt that I needed to stay.
Each day, seeing people stop in the hotel and ask if there is any work for them, even one day's worth, or people coming by trying to sell their goods, I saw Xiola wanted to and tried to help each one of them, even though there wasn't enough money sometimes. I began to see the kind and pure heart of a Nicaraguan woman who does her best each day to create a good place and provide work for people. She really wants to keep improving the hotel and we are completing tasks each day.
I am now leaving but after sharing my experiences using Workaway with Xiola, we decided to create a profile for her to use so she can continue to recieve volunteers. They don't want me to go but I know there are plenty of travellers out there with a lot to offer and can come and make a lot of change here. If you are interested, please contact Xiola i(n Spanish!) and bring your creativity and positivity to help improve the hotel and help our lovely Xiola.

Learn what its like to live with a Nicaraguan family! Everyone working here in the hotel is a local so you will have the opportunity to practice and greatly improve your Spanish and learn as much as you wish about local culture. San Juan del Sur is a magnet for national and international tourists so you will have the opportunity to meet a lot of people, especially with the busy season coming!
We are looking for one person who can give general help around the hotel, mostly in reception which entails hanging around during the day and being available to recieve potential guests and show them around, check guests in and out. Sometimes some light cleaning like sweeping and mopping out front or tidying the kitchen. You are welcome to participate in cooking family meals if you desire.
In general, someone that is innovative and can introduce fresh and new ideas to the hotel would be great to see.
Help with communication would be great as most tourists here speak english and little spanish. Since we only speak Spanish, someone with a decent level of Spanish would be great.
Also! There are a lot of empty white walls upstairs around the balcony and would love to see them filling up with some murals! We like to give creative freedom to paint what you see fit for the space.

Private room in hotel (with private bathroom if it's available)
There is a kitchen available and market 2 blocks away if wish to cook own food.
San Juan is a melting pot of travellers and offers a wide variety of bars and restraunts, yet the town is small enough to go out walking and explore easily and safely. There are always activities to get involved in and when you have a spare day you could climb to the Cristo for a great view!
The beach is steps from the hotel and the beaches around San Juan offer some of the best surfing in Nicaragua and the locals would be happy to help you learn.
